New Ubuntu 8.10: The Intrepid Ibex!

NVidia NForce 610i / GeForce 7050 in Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10
We recently upgraded a server from a Jetway P4M9AP motherboard to a Zotac N73V-AC7V, which is actually very good… except that they (the motherboard, NForce 610i chipset, NVidia GeForce 7050 integrated graphics adapter/VGA, sound) doesn’t work out of the box with our Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10.
Fortunately, there is a solution: nForce 610i : audio and nVidia graphic drivers How-to, that actually works. Now we’ve got screamingly fast display (although we rarely use it… it’s a server anyway) and a working sound card.
Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 di Axioo Neon TVR856C/TVR016C
Baru-baru ini kami “mendapat” laptop alias notebook dengan model Axioo Neon TVR 856C. Tugas yang kami terima adalah, “si bos” mengharuskan laptop ini diinstall Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10. Sayangnya, laptop ini tidak dapat diinstall Ubuntu dengan “cara biasa.” Ah, sedikit petualangan nih, pikir saya…
Sekedar petualangan ini ternyata berbuah puluhan kali restart, menunggu, googling, dan menggaruk2 kepala yang udah botak hahahha 
Masalahnya adalah:
- Live CD Ubuntu tidak bisa booting, hang sebelum instalasi karena tidak kompatibel dengan VGA onboard yaitu VIA UniChrome IGP.
- Live CD Ubuntu Alternate installer menampilkan tampilan teks yang kacau balau.
KDE 4.0 Newly Released!
KDE 4.0 contains lots of applications for every day use as well as for specific purposes and is an innovative Free Software desktop, which is usually dubbed as the biggest competitor of GNOME Desktop Environment. Plasma, the new desktop shell developed for KDE 4, provides an intuitive user interface to interact with the desktop and applications. Konqueror is a usable web browser which integrates the web with the desktop. It has the new Dolphin file manager (replaces previous Konqueror in KDE 3), the Okular document reader (to read Adobe Acrobat/PDF files as well as many other file types) and the System Settings control center to complete the basic desktop set.

It’s very easy if you use Ubuntu!
Considering the success of my previous post about wireless-ing your ADSL internet connection, I guess it’s good to show you how to make PDF files easily with Ubuntu.
In short, go to your Ubuntu terminal then execute:
sudo aptitude install cups-pdf
sudo aa-complain cupsd
Then you can go to System menu, Administration, Printing and add a New Printer, pick the PDF driver. And you’re set!
OCaml: The Fastest Powerful Programming Language Ever?
OCaml seems to be a (yet another) very interesting programming tool.
Objective Caml (OCaml) is the main implementation of Caml (Categorical Abstract Machine Language), which is based on ML. The Meta-Language (ML) was originally developed at Edinburgh University in the 1970’s as a language designed to efficiently represent other languages. The language was pioneered by Robin Milner for the Logic of Computable Functions (LCF) theorem prover. The original ML, and its derivatives, were designed to stretch theoretical computer science to the limit, yielding remarkably robust and concise programming languages which can also be very efficient.

Di Linux kita bisa mengoprek system sesuka kita (tp harus jadi root), hm… kemarin iseng iseng lihat ubuntu-me via website resminya, dan sempat kecewa sih sebenarnya karena tidak ada perubahan signifikan dari Ubuntu , cuma tambah beberapa program aja… (mungkin butuh kontribusi kita kali ya…)
oke akhirnya saya pengen membuat Ubuntu feisty saya menjadi Ubuntu-ME, pertimbangan:
1. ribet install ulang
2. males konfigurasi ulang
3. ga ada waktu lagi…

I have just known this. It’s pretty weird that I have never visited this bug before. 
I thought this was a way for Ubuntu founder Mark Shuttleworth to have some fun.
It seems, it’s no fun at all:
Microsoft has a majority market share in the new desktop PC marketplace. This is a bug, which Ubuntu is designed to fix.

Sebelumnya saya sempat membahas tentang Ubuntu, kali ini saya akan kasih tau tampilan Ubuntu tuh kayak apa sih?!?!
Apakah modelnya kayak MS-DOS gituh?? (apaan tuh MS-DOS??!?!?)
Bagus mana sich tampilannya ama Windows 98? Ama Windows XP? Ato Vista?
